"Bad Cropping?" Please explain

I have here another "bad cropping" reject, and I can't see where I went wrong, being that I have submitted previous photos with similar composition.

All suggestions/comments/criticisms appreciated!!

As far as cropping, yeah, it looks similar to your others. The lighting suffers pretty badly, though, and you have uploaded several recently that look pretty much the same.

Interesting location. I like the rocks in the river as foreground. Decent composition except for too much sky. If the sky had been more interesting it would be okay, but as it is too much hazy blue dead space. The big problem with the picture is terrible lighting. The combination of leafless trees and poor lighting make it a very bland scene. The image also does not look very sharp to me, or maybe it was just a hazy day. Have no idea what the orientation is relative to the sun during the day, but on a clear day with low sun (and maybe with leaves on the trees) that possibly could be a very nice place to do a better version of that picture.

The poor lighting is the kicker, you won't be able to overcome that. The bad crop probably refers to too much solid blue sky. You should put the train 1/3 of the way down from the top of the frame. It would cut out some sky and the rule of thirds placement of the train would improve the shot. As John says, go back and try again with better light and with leaves on the trees, or snow or something! It's a nice location.

Is that bridge double tracked? It's definitely a good idea. I love train on bridge shots, but this shot does not work for all of the reasons listed by the three fellows before me.

The bridge is definitely double-tracked, with an east-west orientation.
