I like how they all claim they don't care about what others think. I really enjoy reading what Danny V posts.

Oh and I also like how they claim we only shoot for Railpics. If I only shoot for Railpics, then why would I also share my photos on TrainOrders, Flickr, Facebook, etc? Did they ever think that submitting to RailPics is just another way for me to get my photos views and also a way for me to get business? RailPictures has set me up with quite a few buyers/publishers. I guess they don't really understand that part of the game...

Exclamation Quote of the Week

From Voldemort's FB page:

Daniel Valentine If the RP faithful woul[d] really take a look at this group, instead of criticizing it, they just might learn something about photography.

_______________________________________________

Course he has the group viewing setting at "closed," so the public can't see what he posts in the group anyway.

Question - if a crazy man stands in a park and screams relentlessly at the pigeons, does he make a sound if there is no one there to hear him?

Daniel, think about it.......

Is there really anyone in your park to listen?

It seems like this kind of action really brings down the usefulness of the rating system. Anyone have any thoughts to this?
Why would anyone care if your shot had one star----or 5000 stars? What difference would it make? Who cares if you get "Picture of the Decade"?

Photography is all about subjectivity. If someone likes it---fine. If they don't---fine as well. I post my images for others to see. If they don't like them, I respect their right to have that opinion. If they do like them---thank you.

I got a PM on facebook from Dan after I called him certifiable on a mutual friends facebook page. He proceeded to tell me to grow up. Irony is lost on the man.

Heh. Yeah, I noticed the random 1 star ratings on my shots but didn't care enough to even look into it and then noticed this thread. Being able to hide behind anonimity is always problematic for this reason and makes the 'star' rating pretty meaningless.

Besides, it seems like people either like a shot and give it 4 or 5 stars or they simply don't bother (except for the 1 star trolls ). It's their own lives they're wasting doing that though which is actually the funny part.

The trolls found me! I'm a member of the one star recipient club today, twice.

For what it's worth, I never rate anyone's photo. If I really, really like it, I usually make a comment. If I remember to do it, I might vote for PCA (although I forget about 99 percent of the time). I can't recall ever rating someone with stars. I'll check to see how I'm doing, though, since this seems to be something folks follow...

Hey RP guys....maybe the star ratings shouldn't be anonymous.

This was on there, which I thought was pretty bizarre. Hasn't there been some recent laws passed making attacks like this on an individual illegal? This guy is really stupid.

"Please join in and rate this image a "1". We want to see if Chase Gunnoe will manipulate the ratings on this image as he has done so in the recent past.

Just click on the image and go to the ratings section just below the map."

Wow, Matt Sell with a HARDCORE Harry Potter reference. He should stick to his magic and those dragons he loves to draw, not trains!

As for Dan, certifiable is the correct term.

As for the ratings system, I don't care about it at all. If people like my stuff, cool! If not, cool! At least they see it, right?

I most definitely shoot for myself, RP is just a really good place to share my work. I have a whole hard drive full of photos that do not conform to RP standards for one reason or another, either too artsy or my favorite, backlit

Agreed. Well looks like another 44 views possibly coming your way Chase. Not that you need them with your great porfolio.

I was merely using that as a reference since it has already been brought up earlier. But your right! I do love to draw dragons. http://dragonwolface.deviantart.com/...eing-307935082

Or maybe I should draw trains since I cant photo them correctly. http://dragonwolface.deviantart.com/...R-T1-306525107

Or maybe Im just better at taking pictures of wolves. http://dragonwolface.deviantart.com/...CKKK-304764740

Oh I just dont know.

In all seriousness, some really take this all too seriously. I just came back from Mance, where there's no cell service, hardly any radio, no one around. Just me and trains. (and the mother bear and cubs that sent me packing!). Simplicity. Then i come home, read this, and shake my head. That group is so worried about everybody else. And it's not even just that group either. When and why did everyone start hating on one another? Go watch some trains and be happy.

Ben

I'm gettin irritated with that Tom Heck favoriting every single pic that i get on here. About the raitings yea I got one up last night and it got a 1 star rating and it appears that everyone else that got one up yesterday got a 1 star too....

Ive never hated RP. I just disagree with some of their methods. Kilroy even mentioned to me when I met him that the way things are done here is broken and is in need of coming up with something done like on airliners.net. Everyone is entitled to their opinions, even Voldemort. And if that is wrong then I believe Im living in the wrong country.

Besides, if I hated this site so much, would I bother submitting photos to it?
