Bad contrast

Bad cropping and being unlevel should be added to the first shot.

Agreed on both counts. There needs to be more room on the left side of the frame. In fact, you pretty much cut the train off. Not sure why the sceeener didn't note that.

As for the second shot, way too tight all the way around. Hopefully if I go to California anytime, I will shoot the scene and not the train as you did.
