Bad Cropping Reject
I'm not surprised I'm having trouble with this shot. I'm stretched out to 200 mm if I recall and there's not a lot happening in the shot. I hoped to sell it with a caption, but I'm getting Bad Cropping. I don't want to lose the structure in the background because it "places" the seteting IMO. The second version is as shot/uncropped.

Part of the reason I want this cropping is because I have a shot in the database of the same vantage point under NS control.

No light on the engine kinda kills it for me.

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

What about a tighter crop that cuts out the silos, but keeps the building and conveyor system?
My gut feeling here is that if the unit had been one track to the left this could work, but its going to be a tough sell to the screeners as-is.

I think I prefer the 1st one the best. I'd probably take some off the bottom, but the weak light on this side of 23 - while irrelevant to cropping - does make it less compelling overall.
I'm glad you shared though since I'm a CLNA fan. However, I have a bone to pick with you SC guys stealing "my" local GP30! One of my favorite models, and even though she looks pretty shabby, I'm still sad that I won't get to watch her go by while I'm drinking my morning coffee anymore!

They have 1 more ex-Nucor GP30 in the yard in Wilson, but it is not currently operational. Not sure what's in store for it.
