I'm Back
So, yeah, I’m back. A month’s leave without pay was a little harsh maybe, but I definitely benefited. I kinda realized how much of an a** I was before. It’s not my place to be the forum police, so if anyone wants this, they can have it. I certainly won’t be needing it. It will still bug me a tad if a thread is in the wrong place, but I’m not going to say anything. Thanks to David H. for helping me with this all...
Anyway, I have perused the forums from time to time through Chrome’s Incognito Windows and some stuff made me laugh...as always. I laughed so hard when I read this.

Anyway some fun stuff.
Also, I definitely have a lot of shots that I’ve been wondering about. (All of these are over 7 days old, so I would resubmit, not appeal.)
NS 238 in Clemson, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68623467881778
This shot’s nemesis was the PEQ. Should I let ‘er slide or no? I personally like it, but, I don’t really know.
NS M72 in Central, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68583033158866
This got PIQ, Soft, and Too Much Compression. I’m not really seeing any of these. Thoughts?
NS 118 in Central, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68598131725522
Soft also. Should I let this one go, too?
NW 557600 in Central, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68771097672162
Are the trucks too dark?
NS 175 in Central, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68174933320386
This one got ditched for blurry. I see it. Do you think selective sharpening would help or is it over for this shot?
NS 238 in Liberty, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68637431464018
PEQ. What’s amiss? Anything I need to fix or is it hopeless?
NS 222 in Norris, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68649433678866
This interesting shot got the PEQ hammer. I knew it wasn’t the normal, but should I try resubmitting?
NS 238 in Clemson, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68740087195842
I didn’t submit this fearing Cloudy/Common. Strike anyones vibes?
NS 154 in Clemson, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68807402036034
This got Cloudy and I was wondering if it was worth a resubmission.
AMTK 20 in Norris, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68689705105586
Bad Color--I’m not seeing it.
NS 238 in Taylors, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68673113085362
Sharp enough? I didn’t know so I haven’t submitted it yet.
NS 119 in Taylors, SC
https://picasaweb.google.com/crazyti...68718001564146
Is this one sharp enough also?

Images five and ten are the only photos I particularly like and # 5 is my favorite. # 5 is awful blurry and if you saw it in the first place, why did you submit it? Mark it up as experience and adjust your exposure accordingly next time.
Your slow shutter blurs with dull backgrounds are a waste of time. Traffic cones are not that interesting, learn to incorporate something worth looking at.

As for the pics the only one I really like is Amtrak 20 splitting the signals, the N&W Caboose shot isnt bad either. The last one is a waste of an SD60 in good light.....
oh and crop the pole on the Amtrak shot

Okay, I kinda hinted at how I got banned in my OP, but I'll expound.
Hatchetman posted the "AL Qaeda to derail trains link" in the Photography forum.
Rathman11 posted the same link in the Off-topic forum three minutes later.
I posted in Hatchetman's thread saying this might not be the correct forum.
Rathman11 posts in his own thread saying this doesn't seem to be the right forum for this.
I posted saying otherwise.
Rathman11 reposts the link to a new thread in the Photography forum.
I lost my head.
I posted in that thread that he was being outrageous and that the OT forum was clearly the correct forum, citing the recently relocated thread concerning OBL's death.
A few minutes later, after a few more posts in the third thread, I posted something saying that this craziness made me want to repost the link to every single different forum RP has.
I decided it would be nice if an admin would clean up the mess, so I emailed them asking for such.
A few hours later, I return to find this message:
You have been banned from the site.
Your ban will be lifted 06-06-11, 01:00 PM.
Reason:
Anyway, I then found out that the two threads in the Photography forum had also been deleted.
Anyway, for any of you that have any inclination to try to be Forum Police, do yourself a favor and realize that you have zero authority to do such.
Now, as for NS 119, LOL and the heck you say. I'm going to experiment and not shoot a front-lit, 3/4 wedgie. Sure it didn't turn out best, but its more experience.
I'll definitely crop the pole out, not sure why I didn't already.

Well, I was kinda stuck on these shots, which is why I posted so soon after. And Chase, would you have done any different?

People in Nitro are pretty desperate to connect themselves to the outside world...

Nice to have you back, but I have to ask... is this really the right forum to be posting this thread, lol.
OK - I got my crack in, I suppose I'm obligated to critiquing your images - as I perceive, anyway:
1) Lighting is blah. Cones ugly.
2) First impression - you nailed it. Second look, yes, just a hair oversharpened by the trucks and possibly the numberboard. I'd bet
another screener would let it slide. Green bush a bit unappealing but
no biggie. I prefer capturing the full engine but plenty of nose jobs
on RP.
3) Numbers, a hair soft - but, jeeze, it is a pan. There are, and will likely
continue to be many accepted that are not as good.
4) Trucks are dark, per RP policy, but can be corrected. Angle is a bit
funky. Distracting shadows, too. Mostly, the angle for a roster wedge
is not aesthetically appealing.
5) Too small to verify "blurry", but a bit of a mess? I don't see a train picture nor do I see a auto parking lot shot. Just see lots's of "stuff" but
no where to focus on. Train is in an odd location in the frame. Lighting is
dark, no side light and not effective use of backlighting (or unlit sides).
6) Try again, next time with a WHITE engine, lol. Just dark - but I like
what you are trying to capture. Maybe try again with better light. Just
be mindful, cut off trains loose points, typically.
7) What's the story you are trying to tell? It looks like you captured it by
mistake.
8 Unappealing sideground, lol.
9) No, don't resubmit! Dull sky and foreground clutter that is out of focus
in such a way that it does not benefit the scene.
10) Ballast is green without hint as to why. Odd green, too. Like radioactive green. Try adjusting color balance or desaturating the
green, or selective desaturation of just that area. The "brown" pole
is green too.
11) Dull sky. Dark nose (in such a way it does not benefit the scene).
Maybe unlevel too.
12) Foreground clutter. And again, is there a story or not? It looks like
an accidental exposure. Ooooh, blur - but to what end? Why? And again,
you have yourself a cut off train which again, tends to be unappealing to
most.
Hmmm.... just my 24¢.
Don't mistake the bluntness for rudeness - I sometimes simply like to get to the point and call it as I see it. Your mileage may vary!
/Mitch

LOL, thanks for your input, I'll work on the pans and, sans the ones on the site now, I'll be letting the rest slide. I do have a question about reshooting #5. I personally like my idea, so to speak. How do you think I could make the composition stronger?
