It's dramatic, it's an interesting perspective, but I don't think it's quite like anything I've seen at RP before, and that might be the source of the PEQ. There might be some steam purists who yell and scream about the rods not being down, but I don't have a clue what that's all about. Also, it seems like you've got some high sun action going on, though the EXIF data indicates that this was merely mid-morning; was the light angle more or less aligned with the train?

It was just after 8 AM and they were headed due west out of the yard, so sun is pretty much behind and to my right some....... I felt the shot was clean enough for it to make it, but it does break a few "rules"... Leaving out the tender, whacking off the plume, shooting going away...... Oh well, rules were meant to be broken.....

Rules were meant to be broken, but that is only helpful if the breaking is toward notable end. Here, my view is that this shot is very much a black blob - the number on the cab is a focal point but everything else seems weak.

In particular, steam is inherently dramatic, it implies movement, it implies action. Why is all the interesting steam cut off? And why are so many interesting details of the engine not visible? What one is left with is a tender broadside and detailless side of the engine.

Not a fan.

My angle, poles, cars, wires, etc just didnt allow a good pic with a wider crop. My opinion of course. So I tried something a little different. I like it because of the power it represents.

Have you tried Black and White? I think the crop and steam will work better. I think it will give it an entirely different feel.

Thanks all..... I really like the "feel" of this shot but I am starting to like the crop less & less... I may play with it some more when time allows
