Nose of the engine is way too centered. The overall shot looks a little drab to me, like it needs (more) post processing, certainly some brightening.

There is nothing about the rock at bottom left, or the dried up branch lying on top of it, that deserve such prominence in the shot. And in the cropped version the sky has gone all pebbly.

My only thought is maybe you can make a vertical work; that would put more emphasis on the trackwork as a foreground and not the boulder.

Do you have a shot where the train is closer to you, thus eliminating any evidence of the ugly P42?

This shot certainly has possibilities, so this appears to be a screener who must have thought someone peed in his oatmeal this morning.

I recropped it (and also lightened it a bit). I do like it, though.

I did need to lighten it.... As for the rock, I do agree it is an element that in my mind , needs to stay..... It tells of the harshness of Arizona back country and speaks to the remoteness of this location.......

I have several shots in this sequence and wanted to hide those ugly beasts as best I could...... kinda like taking a photo of Secretariat pulling a plow

I think Ron's crop should have nailed it. I noticed an awful lot of noise (?) or jpeg compression (?) or something in this shot. You may want to try and remove it. A little color work will help too.

I am with Ron and Chris here. It does need brighting. Check your histogram. I find most color problems go away with a good histogram.

BTW, I like the shot very much because it is so different seeing the train strung out at a right angle.

So you don't have a frame where the locomotive is 1-2 lengths closer to you? It appears that's all it would take to hide the P42 behind it. Didn't machine-gun, eh?

It's still a nice scene and there should be an acceptable crop in there somewhere.
