Poor fellow didn't know where he was. Middle of nowhere would have sufficed.
I personally like to shoot 'from' the tree there.

"Tunnel and bridge" is great. I'm gonna start using location names like that.

That could prove fun. Be as literal, yet vague as possible.
If anyone cares, that location is downtown Twin Branch which is a bedroom suburb of the Greater Davy Metropolitan Area in beautiful McDowell County, West Virginia.
And I look damn sexy standing up in that tree.

Most disturbing, non-hypotethetical (aka real-world, actually exists) post ever then.

What exactly have you contributed to this site and to this thread?
Daniel Simon has 1776 shots on RP including a Screener's Choice, a Photo of the Week, 4 PCAs, and 3.6 million view of his "ugly European crap" . Chip Allen, presuming you are he, has 478 shots on RP including no Screener's Choice shots, no Photo of the Week, 1 PCA, and < 600k views of his decent quality stuff.
The thing is, your opinion is welcome here. Everyone's opinion is welcome! If you disagree with Daniel's view of the shot, fine! But you went on and wrote one more sentence and now lots of people are informed that you are a doofus that takes decent quality stuff.

Dude, calm down. It may have been a poor assessment on Daniel's part, but this is just completely unnecessary.

Agreed. Let's keep it civil here, and avoid the personal affronts.
FWIW, I didn't think much of non-North American railroading until I ended up with a career that included some international travel. You know what? Trains on other continents look different, but they're every bit as interesting to watch as the ones here. Widenose units and modern-day passenger locomotives in the US are no beauty contest winners either.

As the old saying goes: opinions are like assholes, everybody's got one and they usually stink. I'm sorry if I upset the forum gods with my failure of a photo. Please accept my deepest apologies for uploading such a horrid image. I will go back to uploading strictly perfectly lit wedges and not consider offering anything different.

Jordan,
I only see two posts offering a negative opinion about your photo, and only one photo. Getting called out on one photo does not make or break your portfolio, which is generally quite good. Chip's immature defense of your photo by taking a shot at the critic is what has elevated this discussion to a different level.
Don't take this thread as an affront to your pursuit of different ideas. Sometimes someone won't like them. Knowing Daniel's history posting here, he was complaining about the screeners inconsistencies and you took collateral damage. Don't be offended by this callout, I've had photos called out here, and I'm sure everyone on this forum has at one time or another.. When it's your photo being called out, it's hard not to take it personally, but the callouts are of your photo, not of you.

Well put Doug. People we can be constructive but civil too. I started this thread as the demise of the original (which we are slowly catching up to on view count ) raised some questions. If the powers to be don't like the trend on this then I venture to say this thread will seem the same result.
Nice to see others trying to moderate things here, Rich

I am constantly amazed at just how many babies there are in Foamerdom. I think part of it is a culture has evolved where your peers tell you how great a shot is (fav's, etc.), even though the shot is really so-so or even has deep flaws. The expectation is that others will tell you how great you are, not basing that on if the photo is actually good, but rather the fact you've told them how great THEY are. I.e., a circle jerk. Too many foamers get too wrapped up personally in their shots, sometimes to the point that they are unable to take honest criticism that if listened to would actually help them improve. I don't see this kind of behavior in other photography genres too much (although some bird photographers seem to be wrapped pretty tight! ) I see more of that sort of thing on Flickr etc. rather than here. Maybe they should change the sales pitch from "Best RR photos on the net" to "Best foamers on the net?" We all do this for fun.

Doug,
You are absolutely right. My post about Jordan's photo was (again) all about the inconsistency of the screeners. The goal of my comment was absolutely not to criticize Jordan's work or to offend him. I just wanted to denounce once more how inconstant the selection of the photos is on the internet site.
