Gallery: Fall Foliage
Well, with my favorite time of the year coming up, let's show off some of those beautiful and colorful fall images! I've got a few to share from last year, but now that I own an SLR, I really plan on taking advantage of the foliage this year!

Good idea, Chase!
There's nothing like growing up in the Northeast to spoil one's opinion of what "autumn" means...

Just because there aren't many trees doesn't mean one can't celebrate autumn in the Palouse:

Autumn is always a fun time to work with interesting atmospheric conditions:

Last year in the Cascades was particularly brilliant:

A change of seasons...

Looking forward to seeing the work of others...

This is my only Fall shot in the DB so far. I hope to rectify that this year . . .

Getting good fall shots is hard, Tens to get rainy the windy so by the time the weekend gets here the good ones are on the ground. | PhotoID: 257500 Photograph © Scott Marsh |

Great topic, Chase!
Last year I really lucked out in terms of weather and trains on the Thanksgiving weekend. Spent a day at Bayview Junction last year and had one of the best railfanning days before the traffic levels dropped (and before all the good locomotive were parked!)

Hopefully the weather will cooperate as nicely this year.

What would have been my favorite fall foilage shot was ruined by clouds...
No clouds...
With clouds...
Oh well, it was just another F9 anyways. Had some color left down by the dock on this chase day...

There was brilliant color on Sand Patch last fall. I read a few people that said peak color was the best they had seen in the past 25 years. Judging by a few early photos last week and a few reports peak won't be nearly as nice this year due to weather patterns and an early frost that hit one evening. I still have hope for a few other locations in the area.

I had a few last year, but nothing spectacular.
This was probably the best one color wise.

Finally, a gallery I can relate to....
Although images containing the classic steam engines are definitely getting harder and harder to come by, there is no place that shows off the fall colors like THE COG:

Kevin I challenge you to a battle of the mountain railroads.

Here is my contribution to fall foliage and mountain railroading.
This section of the old Lackawanna from Cresco to Scranton required helpers so technically that's mountain railroading, right?
3254 needed help this day too unfortunately due to bad planning by the operating railroad.

Good thread. (I like this war)

Fall colors were already starting to fade here.

One of my favorite shots, same fall colors time frame, but the colors were a little better, plus the blue engine contrasts the colors perfectly.

You're right, Mitch. It started here last week, and ended here like 2 days ago. Now it's winter again.
