UP Steam and Whoring
If you haven't heard, UP is letting 'fans vote for where their steam trains go next year. You can read/learn about it here:
http://x.up.com/2772
I'm starting a campaign to see if we can get the steam over the beautiful but sadly closed Tennessee Pass line! How awesome would that be? Only one word could describe it: epic.
So if you want to see this:

or this:

on the Tennessee Pass (or a town near you), you gotta vote! So hop to, get to it!!

Its not fair, I have to put up with a constant stream of UP GarbagEVO's in Atlanta, but they wont run 3985 from LA to Atlanta on NS 226.

Good vote Chris. I would vote Minturn, Colorado if it would work. I guess I will just have to vote my St. Louis again.

Would love to see a steam trip down the pokey and christiansburg to roanoke. Kinda doubt this will happen, but hey, they sent 3985 down the clinchfield some time back. Got a nice kiss with a covered hopper too.
OPPS, that didnt work, guess I need to read the directions.
No Results
We are sorry. Only hometowns along the Union Pacific Railroad are available for voting.

In a couple years NS and CSX will look identical for the most part anyway except for blue vs black locomotives. They are erasing all the uniqueness of certain locales.

Well, if NS steam returns as they said it would (TVRM thing, ya know), then we could, but it may not be likely. As for the fact that Cl*ss 1's are all becoming more and more alike, I believe they are and for a good reason. More black, less red on the bottom line, simple as that.

No - according to their Web Site the voting is limited to destinations on their "system."
I had thought about voting in a place that was not even served by a railroad track.
Needless to say that idea spun down the bowl when I read the contest was limited to their tracks only.

Correct...but UP still owns the Tennessee Pass. Minturn, CO is an acceptable vote (I've been voting fpr it), but Grand Forks, ND is not and would be rejected.

5th on the current "leaderboard" (measures participation and referrals) is none other than our very own ottergoose! Keep it up, Nick! (Don't recall seeing you on the board recently, how's it going?)
Chris, what is your problem? Or is one of the top 4 an ID of yours? Are you ColoradoRailfan, in 4th place?

I was a day late learning about this. By the time I found out and researched, pretty much all Yahoo! Groups and other 'net outlets had already been flooded with referral links. But there are a lot of bushes out there that are yet to be beaten, so don't count me out yet!

I wish they would show the location leaderboard, as opposed to the voting leaderboard . . . then we'd know how Minturn is doing.

I've been doing more lurking than participating here lately, but, I'm still alive, don't worry

So apparently the Arkansas one won...
Anyone have any experience on this line? Anyone planning to go?
http://upexcursion.com/
The dates for the Little Rock Express excursion have been announced and April showers are bringing ... May Steam!
The Little Rock Express begins with the arrival of Union Pacific's steam locomotive No. 844 May 29 in Kansas City, Mo., and concludes June 9 in Little Rock, Ark. Details regarding the numerous steam locomotive stops will be posted on upsteam.com, up.com and the Union Pacific Facebook and Twitter pages.

bah, would have loved to see 3985 on the Florida East Coast. I haven't seen a legitimate steam train ever other that stuff in theme parks and the TVRR I rode when I was like 7. I'm headed back up there this May I might ride it again, or at the very least railfan it.
