Its the official name of the city...

Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

Yes, seriously. If it's official enough for Associated Press it's official enough for RailPictures.
Altoona, Pa., changes name to Spurlock movie title

I actually kinda agree with Troy...maybe not the INSTA BAN, but it's kinda annoying...
I guess I'll start calling Augusta: The City Where Trains Run Down The Middle of The Street, Georgia....

It's pathetic that a city is in such desperate need of $25,000 that they allow something like this to happen. I would be embarrassed if I lived in a city that did that.

You call it pathetic, I call it fun. It's only a 60-day marketing promotion for a movie about marketing and promotion. It's great publicity. It's not like citizens have to change their address. The money is going to the police department, I would hardly call that "desperate". If you read other articles it's pretty obvious the city council and mayor are just having fun. It's just like Pittsburgh, PA mayor Luke Ravenstahl changinf his last name to Steelerstahl when the Steelers played the Ravens in the playoffs a few years ago.
Lighten up, it's pathetic how seriously you take everything.

So what happens when the joke is over? Or when somebody is looking for Altoona shots?

If they don't have the full information - they miss out on some.
Places change their name.
I have a friend who tells the story of how his grandparents lived in The Ukraine, Russia and Poland over the course of their lives - all the while in the same town - in the same house.

That's a little different, not a silly publicity stunt.

The funny thing about this, Troy, is that Spurlock's point is extactly that - that everything has become crass commericialism.
He is making the point by donating 25K to the town coffers of Altoona.
I don't have a probem with that.

If you type "Altoona" into the search bar my photo still appears. They only way to miss out is if you click on the link of the town name while viewing another photo.

Maybe you should go see the movie or at least figure out what it is about before typing so much about a topic you seem to know so little about. THAT IS THE ENTIRE POINT OF THE MOVIE! It's called sarcasm, look it up.

Sarcasm actually isn't in the dictionary.
Neither is gullible.

Interesting... but honestly have no idea if you're saying STFU to the movie producer, the town, or Troy.

I tend to agree in part with both Troy and Brad. For the city, it's kinda fun, I guess, for a few weeks. For RP purposes, I'd prefer Altoona. Though I might start putting in Hell, South Carolina for Columbia.

I was replying more specifically to the text in bold and agreeing with Troy. This "name" they came up with for the city is contrived and stupid.

I vote "who cares", too. It's mostly silly and harmless. But, it appears to be good for a rant or two....

So basically you are saying the movie succeeded with its point then.

Seems like a view-seeking effort to play off the movie (ironically validating the point of the movie) that does little other than slightly degrade the searchability of the images in question. At the end of the day though, I really don't give two Sheetz if they want to put the temporarily correct movie location name.
Would anyone care to sponsor my posts? I'll mention your product or link to it in my sig file for the right $$$.........
