Status of ACW repaints

With spring's arrival, I have an upcoming opportunity to visit NC and was wondering what the current status of ACW's SD40 repaints are? At last check there were only a few painted.

Did ACW do any painting recently?

What is the total number painted as of today?

4 of 9 known to be repainted (6907, 6909, 6918, 6926). Traffic is down, and several units (mostly GP40-2Ls) stored. The ethanol transload at Midland closed, so the west end is back to an alternating days to Charlotte and Star schedule. M-W-F to Charlotte, Tu-Th to Star, 0700 out of Oakboro. Repaints were planned to resume in the spring, so there could be more SD40-3s being or already painted, but you'll likely see some gray if you go down there in the next couple of months.

Update on that schedule out of Oakboro: they have returned to the day crew to Charlotte, night crew to Star M-F schedule.

4 painted (6918,6926,6910,6907), 1 in primer as of yesterday (6919 or 6909 I can't remember which one for sure).

No night job out of Oakboro

Hmmmm....I had a friend over there this past Tuesday and they were coming west into Oakboro around 0800. He said it was a night job from Star but maybe wondering if they canned coming back from Star the day before and started from where they left off? This was an out of town fan from Ohio, so I'm more willing to go with what you're saying, and it jives with what I've been told by another very reliable source in the area. Appreciate you adding the additional info, Anthony.

Wow. The ethanol facility is closed already? After the fiasco with the plant on the A&R and now this, NC is having bad luck with the ethanol business. Is business going down like that nationwide or is that local? I guess I don't keep up with these things.

Corn-based ethanol is a negative business case in general. Only the largest producers are surviving, and are heavily reliant on government subsidies. Small producers like Clean Burn on the A&R have been closing or taken over by bigger players frequently in the last year or two.

As of 7-17-12;

6 units are now painted

6907,09,10,18,19,26 All but 26 were on trains.

Three gray units remain, two appeared in service and one out-of-service as follows:

6922 was working Mountainair at Candor.
6939 was sitting at Star coupled to a repainted 26 and blue flagged.
6925 was on the backside of the yard in more of deadline, missing the bell off the front of the cab. The Canadian bell bracket remains between the number boards but is empty.
