My canon 40D has finally succumbed to my abusive use... Going to upgrade.. I like the 7D.... Anyone have any good or bad comments on this camera? Nikon users are not allowed to comment... LOL

I have a 7D as a backup and have always been impressed with it's focus accuracy and it's speed. The firmware upgrade in 2012 really increased the buffer size to 24 RAW or 130 jpgs before slowing down. You can get a refurb for $800 to $900 now.

Of course, I want to stay with the EF-S mount ... I like the specs on the 7D.. Really appreciate any and all comments

If you know you like the 7d, I say buy it. Plenty of railfans swear by it. I'd have to give consideration to the new 70D as well.

In comparison to the 40d, it would be a bit more of a lateral move, than an upgrade. I own a 40d, and I used a 7d extensively. If you can find one cheap, than go for it. I wouldn't pay what they are asking for a new one, however.

I've had the 7D for several years now and love it. It's a durable and versatile camera with a great sensor and one of the fastest shutters on the market at any price level. I just upgraded to a 6D as I wanted a full frame sensor but still keeping the 7D as a backup, especially when I need the extra reach of the 1.6X sensor.
