Rejected, thoughts on composition..

Well I finally have a chance to get back to editing some train photos and make my first attempt in months and I guess I have some rust to shake off, lol. My thoughts were that with the icicles, different gondolas of freight and the overhead spot the shot would have a chance but that was MY thought and the not ones that count.

I've been around long enough to know some of the glitches with the screening system and we can all agree this is not a "Going Away" shot. Should I just shelve it now or do others see merit in it making the database?

Until I read the description, I though it was going away. Nothing on the pusher to show it's a pusher. Cool shot but Legit rejection imo.

If you go through the full days portfolio you will see what makes it 90 pct of the time, anything else is uphill(smile) and just have to accept it.

Bob, I would keep that one in my back pocket and try resubmitting at some point. I think it is an outstanding photo in less than ideal conditions. Too dark? Not on my monitor-- it looks perfect.

One of those good shots, but not for RP things. I do suggest you revisit the leveling; I see it as tipping clockwise.

Outstanding. Really outstanding. But the one that got in is a lot better than the first, so I think the screener did you a favor. The rejected version was okay and probably should have been accepted, but this is much much better. Makes you wonder if the screener was smart enough to see the potential, or was just nit picking.

On the other hand, they can drive us away entirely. I've noticed that several more of our established contributors just aren't posting here anymore.
As for me, I have to be in the mood for the drama. The mood comes and goes, even though thousands of slides await their turn in the scanner.

Good move, Bob...and into the Top of 24 right now. An excellent lesson in how what is originally rejected can be turned into one of the most-viewed photos on the site.
