Does This Stand a Chance?

After navigating through rush hour traffic, we made it to Niles Jct with 5 seconds to spare. A full out sprint (in which some would call power walking) put me in the situation of a quick shot, as the train was already half way on the bridge. Of course, I was shooting puppy pictures (yeah, that's where Moore's avatar came from ) the night before and forgot to reset the ISO, so it's at 400. I tried my best to remove the noise, but I couldn't get it all.

Does this stand a chance making it into the database, or is this another one to hang onto for 30 years and then post somewhere?

Also, yes, it's cloudy... Some of the Bay Area's finest fog decided to roll in as we were stuck in traffic.

Well, I like the shot but at first thght the wires were a distraction. But now, I think they help to define the content. I really like all the parallel lines. Wires, bridge, railing, pipes and bottom of bridge. I dont see all that much noise but DOF may be an issue. I would try and submit.

Hey Steve... I really like so much of what you post, but I think this one is a goner.

1) The wires are too close to the train... you need to adjust your angle for the shot a bit so they don't feel intrusive.

2) The depth of field is very shallow, which works if the subject is the front of the train, but in this case, the subject is the whole train.

3) The lighting is very grey and dull.

I'm sorry... I wish I could be more positive. I do actually like the shot and if I'd taken it, I'd be happy to have it. I just don't think there's any way to make it RP.net material. Charles

Yeah, someone else already took the "good" spot, but this shot has worked before:

I think the low angle (I was basically in the water, feet were wet) didn't help it, but the light was a plus along with the 18mm on my buddies' D80 worked out well IMO.

I like it, I'll keep it. I don't throw shots away, unless it was a goof and I shot my foot instead of the train (been there, done that a few times).

Wow... that is a nice spot when the sun is out (even with the wires). Nice shots... and great catch on that SDP40

Hey, its the Bay area. People dont tan there, they rust.

This is just my opinion. And thats an opinion from someone who has yet to get a pic on RP. do you think anyone has more than 647 rejections??

I shot the GOOD puppy pictures with a D80, and I never got the photos back (as per usual, they'll show up in about 2 months) but I did get this one of the same dog back:

I used to, but, I got this new half DSLR half P&S, and it's been my good luck charm.

Charles, that SDP40/SD40 on the bridge was actually the first photo with the mentioned camera, Kodak Z712IS.

The content of the shot might be rare, but I think the lighting would kill any chances of acceptance here. Poorer lighting can be overlooked for rarer subjects, however it is too extreme here as the upper right corner of the shot is completely washed out.

I do think it would work better without the wires, but if you can reprocess and bring back the sky thats missing here, it may have a chance.

Might be time to level that puppy and resubmit it. It's funny how some unlevel shots get by the screeners.

Thanks Jim! I think Chris Kilroy accepted that one after some e-mails on how to fix the cropping issue...

I have no clue why you thought it neccessary to rob your image of its quality and sharpness by removing the noise from a photo shot at ISO 400.
