Bad track = unlevel

I leveled this one according to the signpost on the left and woodchip gondola on the right, and even explained in my screener comments that that was my basis and that any further unleveling was from bad track in the yard... but nope.

The center of the photo is level, but your reference points are doing you no favors. First, a signpost is almost never a reliable reference. Why did you pick that when that grain elevator is so obvious? Although I think that a piece of rolling stock on level track can be a reference, the screeners may also not like it.

Looking at the grain elevator and the wood chip car. they are both leaning inward, meaning that there is vertical distortion. If you simply rotate the image to get the grain elevator true, the other side of the image will get worse. You need to apply vertical distortion correction. in the Transform section of LightRoom, it is the top slider. Set it to -5 and you will get the result shown here.

Do you honestly think more than 1% of RP viewers would even notice the difference, much less find the distortion objectionable???

I kinda agree with all prior but think that big piece of equipment rather than adding some interest really over takes the image so here is my suggestion. Doug''s is a good edit but not sure he has lightroom??

Maybe not, but in the absence of other reliable verticals, more than 1% of the screeners will. The only true reliable vertical is the grain elevator, and it's leaning. Correct that through rotation, and the rail equipment is leaning. I'm just suggesting the best way to avoid a rejection. It works for my submissions.

Agree with that, first thing I do is the correction, usually with good results but occasionally bizarre. Did not mean to ???, just offered an alternative.

I did not take your comment a questioning me - it's a good alternative. I was simply responding to miningcamper.

I agree that the equipment detracts, but taking away the grain elevator makes the shot a nondescript wedgie.

BTW, I recall the OP saying in the past that he acquired some sort of editor. LR is what I use, so I shared the settings, but other editors have distortion correction capability.

The original looks level to me and the suggested crap is likely to get me banned from the forums if I posted my true feelings on it. The crop takes out everything that is interesting to me except for the train. Anyone can take a wedgie

Another helpful post, but it is a dead line, ie not a train.

From the OP it would be interesting to have followup, did he give up or find further rejections.
