To continue this fun little thread from before with a different spin, how about showing us your first accepted photo on the site. While you are at it, why not express why you like the shot, or maybe what you don't like about it.

I like the shot because it captures the high horsepower rounding the curve on the former Santa Fe. It has simply been one of my favorites for a long time. I've always liked the red and silver on hotshot pig trains. Could it be better? Certainly. For one, it is a scan of a print. The lighting could have been better, too.

Shots like this back in those days were rare for me. Most of the time, I did not know what I was doing. Then again, do really know today?

Yea, I have been on RP since the begining...the first 48 where CTS's pics, and thats my first one, uploaded just days after the site started.

It probably shouldn't be in there, but it is. All I can say is that please keep it in there, if it's taken out I'm sure it won't ever come back. It was taken with a Kodak Advantix, the 'cheap' way of doing things.

Has it been 2 years already? There's not really a whole lot to say about this shot. It's kind of a bland location (yet, I continue to shoot there

). The power is nothing to write home about (yet, I continue to shoot catfish). However, I still like this shot and at the time it was the best I had.

To me, what makes this shot interesting is the fact that 143 is heading through the crossover with another train in the background. If you look closely, you can see the fuel truck and the crew van next to 375, which will be heading west once 143 clears.

Mine was because I wanted something to be accepted from my July 2003 trip to the Pacific Northwest. When I look at them now, even my backlit "beauties" of Metrolink and Amtrak in Glendale and Burbank look way better. But I'm not the one to overly complain.

Ah, my favorite locomotive (can you tell from the screen-name?). It's a southbound San Joaquin in Pull mode, something that has not happened in nearly a year. Maybe I should have tried zooming in!

How can anyone not like seeing planes on trains!?

I'm unhappy with the photo, since it's not level, but I am more unhappy that I didn't get there in time to capture all three Boeing's that were being carried.

A warm June day at Nipton, I been waiting for this engine to show when I heard it on the scanner. Finally it crests the mountains in the background and I see the light, but it moving slower than it normal 60 mph speed limit. It starts to take the curve and I cross at the crossiing since the sun has now shifted. It comes to a stop on the main. Right In front of me. Another train closer to Vegas had gone into an emergency. My first shot accepted here of an "urban tunnel" is one of my favorites. I was curious as to how this particular line traversed through town, and I found how this nifty way to maximize space was created.

This shot was sort of lucky for me in retrospect, as I wasn't really thinking like the way I do now when it comes to light, composition, etc. I guess I was really inspired. It was also shot with a Canon A80 on full auto!

There were quite a few rejections and a big learning curve to overcome, but I'm still having fun.

The only reason I like this one is because the train was going 75 MPH and it came out clear.

Figured I'd start with this:

This was the last run of the NJT/EL MU's at Dover in August of 1984. I rode these cars a lot and loved them... pretty much quit shooting after that, more, because I don't like to drive and the abysmal freight scene in NNJ.

There is a tremendous crowd in the station and right behind me.

I just wish I was one of the rich guys that could afford a real slide scanner...
