Default NS F-unit photos

Here are two images which were submitted through our main database last night that offer a preview of the paint which will be applied to the NS F units (due to be in service later this spring). These were not accepted to the database but we are posting them here for our viewers to see. Enjoy!

The scoop's on RP!
That must've been a tough call not adding them to the database!?

As for the NS scheme...
I'd have gone all black or perhaps tuscan. I respect the Southern heritage but in the end, seeing these F's with NS's fleet is going to look as odd as the SP black, orange and red heritage UP engine pulling a bunch of yellow UP passenger cars.

Conrail's adaptation was dull, but strangely classy. One color, small logo, simple and intelligent.

I guess they are following CSX's lead in mismatching their engines to their passenger fleet, only in reverse.

Here's one UP got right.

/Mitch

On the other hand, some F's are better then no F's.

Itís certainly an interesting choice. I guess we will have to wait and see what the set looks like with passenger cars before anyone can truly give an opinion on if it works or not. As for not accepting them into the database, I think that was a good call. There are sure to be hundreds of photos of these units to come in the following months.

I think tuscan on tuscan would be too much. I personally love how the repainted "horsehead" Geeps look with the OCS so I think some tuxedo F's would be exquisite! Anyone wanna take a crack at in PS?

Thanks Brad. This was exactly my reasoning behind not accepting them to the database. We took quite a bit of heat after some early accepted photos of the UP heritage units so I thought this may be a better way to handle it. In due time, we'll have plenty of much better quality images to share through the database.

Nice one, Brad! I was saying black instead of the green. I agree with Mitch that the Conrail E's were simple yet eloquent and I think NS could have done the same. All black with a stripe or two and the 'herald' on the nose and side.

While I can appreciate the fact that you did provide recognition to Mr. Davis' work. Did you also provide the courtesy to ask for his permission to edit said photos and then re-post them?

The copyright's intact, credit was given, no profit or personal gain is being made off the manipulation, and it's for informational purposes only, so where's the problem?

While I can't speak directly for Bart Davis, I know that I would appreciate being ASKED before taking my photo and manipulating it in any way, shape or form.

It's not the fact that it was done and credit was given, it's the idea of common courtesy, which I know wasn't done in this case.

I'd appreciate in the future being contacted, BEFORE, my photo is manipulated and re-posted. BTW, that red is absolutely not what I want to see. The Southern Crescent paint scheme is what NS should use, but the powers at be are apparently not fans of most beautiful scheme ever to grace a covered wagon.

Sorry if I upset anyone by posting the image. A simple private message would have done just fine.

The photo did recieve 46 more views by giving credit.

Well that was dumb. It's not on his own site or whatever its in the forums, I think thats a little absurd, actually, very absurd.

As for getting back to the real topic of this thread. A "source" says that the unveiling of the F units may be as early as the end of March for an event in early April.

They look decent, Southernesque. Just wish they were painted up in first class Southern Crescent. Not bad, could always be worse (See RJ Cormans).
