Default MILW 261 News

If you haven't heard the news, Milwaukee Road (MILW) 261 has been purchased from the Nation Railroad Museum to the 'Friends of 261', during the week of April 25th & May 2nd. The agreement was signed by the Museum and the 'Friends' Chief Operating Officer Steve Sandberg. The Formal announcement of the Sale was made during National Train Day on May 8th.

This is fantastic news, not only for the 'Friends' or Railfans, but for Railroading in General. I've never witnessed 261 in person, but I'm happy that another Steam Locomotive can once again run on Mainline Tracks, even if this will be another restoration for 261.

Default Good news indeed!

It's been mentioned (though always welcome via other avenues) through photo submissions on RP recently:

If you check the link on the photo above, you'll find not only the release but also a form which can be printed and mailed along with a much needed donation since the rebuild funds went largely towards the purchase (rather then spread out over the term of the lease).

Hi Luke, aka TrainFanNZ

Liek I said, with news like that, you can't repeat too much of a good thing!

Hopefully she'll be up and running within a year or likely two. And, if so, you'll have your shot at her!
