Default Dakota SouthernRailroad - Chamberlain, S.D.

While on vacation, we stopped by the Dakota Southern yard in Chamberlain, S.D. on 6/15/17. Actually, we drove parallel to this line, along I90, and caught glimpses of it from Kadoka all the way to Mitchell,S.D.
From various viewpoints, the line appears to be grass-covered and inactive wesy of about Presho. I could see that the rails were shiny when we crossed over the line in Oacoma, just west of Chamberlain. Since I could see some fairly new grain facilities near Presho, I am ASSUMING they might be running that far west now.
The yard is a locomotive museum for sure. The following engine were seen there:
GE 70 tonners, 3 of them. These are from the old Sisseton Southern operation.
Alco C420, DS 213
Alco S3, DS 103
DD40, UP 6925 Stripped for parts
GP 30, Soo 719 Stripped for parts
SD 9, DS 506
SD7, DS 522
SD40?? DSRC 37
GP or SD ? #2288 or 2238 Obstructed view
GP??? Orange and dark blue #? obstructed view

Only the orange and dark blue unit looked operable to me. The rest appear to be out of service. There were quite a few grain hoppers in the yard and in another small yard east of town.

Thank you for the report, Jeff. DSRC 37 is an SD38, ex McCloud River same number. It is a relative recent arrival, having been moved from the McCloud a few months ago. It was quite an ordeal to get the unit out of there, as the tracks were severely grown over and major wheelslip/multiple stalls were encountered as the 37 tried to pull another SD38 with it. The other unit was ultimately left behind to be fixed up there before heading to Chamberlain.

Thanks. It was one of the engines that I was not able to get a very good view of as it was partially behind a trackside building.

Dakota Southern Also switcher and one of the three 70 tonners stored at Chamberlain, SD. Location makes them hard to photograph, and of course, sun was in the worst possible spot for photos when we were there.
Well, I don't know why they show up sideways, and I don't know how to fix that. Sorry.
