Here are two fav's of mine that were rejected:

MH Moonda Viaduct

This was rejected for being soft. The sun flare overexposed the silver cars so much that there are no pixels to sharpen. I went back but had the same issue. Also the second time the light on the ground was not nearly as beautiful.

Lonely Lackawanna MU

This was rejected for bad lighting.

Woo Hoo!

Both got in!

This was rejected for over saturation. I toned it down, resubmitted.

This got in with one try today.

Actually this is a banner day. I got six photos in, a record for me.

One more that I think wouldn't make it in. No nose light. In my eye that is irrelevant, the snow is what makes the scene. Been lucky in that the two winters I've shot this line, we've been getting record snowfalls, with plenty of dumps all along this line. Sadly, they use Cats to clear hardpacked snow in cuts and drifts, so thus far, no plows or flangers.

Weird seeing a light engine move on this line. But it was four days till Christmas, so maybe no traffic (would have just been empties going to the mines).

Mike
Your shot would also be knocked for bad cropping since it is too centered, another no-no.

Oh, I don't know about that... guess it depends on the overall image. I understand the rule of thirds, but it does not always apply (just almost always). But if they were to apply it, wow no nose light and centred subject, two rejections! A first for me

Good shot! I like it.

However, the bridge and siding frame the locomotives so much the photo gets out of being centered.

You sneaky.

Here is a shot I really like but it is a tad bit grainy and I think RP will reject it.

What do you think? Please ignore the boarder it was used for posting else where.

That is a beautiful shot, Ryan! My eyes don't see the grain, but my eyes are not that good. I do see alot of processing, but I still like it...

I like it. I think it has an over-processed look which looks very nice on the shot but which may be a problem with RP screening. Also, I'm not a fan of either the tunnel portal or the highway traffic and I would consider cropping at bottom and right. I looked at it a bit and I can't decide which I like better.

So the questions is.... to upload and try or not to try? Personally I don't think even a slightly more dumbed down version of the shot will make it on due to the grain around the engines.

I can say that there was not a ton of processing done on the photo itslef, some shadows and highlights, saturation, contrast, a little noise reduction on the sky and sharpening on the overall image. As for over processing (using huge values in thoe catagories, IIRC they were not way out there, mostly in the range of what I normally do.

as for the cropping, I like that i am showing where the train is going, I'm on the fence with the traffic on the road, but I don't think it takes away from the image. (More discussion here would be appreciated)

I really value your opinions, thanks for the comments.

Awesome shot, if it doesn't make it on RP, oh well! It show's a great winter mood on "The Hill".

Simple, but I just like the way it turned out. It was really a grab shot, no special skills here, I just like the mood. But no way it'll make it through, and that doesn't bother me at all, I just remember it's not my site.

I like the way the light reflects off of the engines from the oncoming train. I know its a cloudy day, common power shot, but for some reason I like it.

If there was precipitation falling at the time, could the grain around the engines (I'm seeing it in the leaders headlight) not be grain at all? May it actually be precipitation?

FWIW, I like the crop the way it is... I would not change a thing.
