Default Too Dark?

Do you guys think this is too dark? I have an HD screen on my laptop here and it doesn't look dark at all to me. I was just looking for some opinions. Thanks guys!

Yes, even on my bright monitor, I can't see any detail on the nose of the loco.

To me, the image seems to be a tad bit oversharpened. The quality also seems to be somewhat poor. I believe the poor quality stems from the oversharpening. It could just be the snow throwing me off, but it does appear quite blatantly oversharpened. Other than that, not much else wrong. May get dinged for bad angle. RP may not like the 'in your face' deal.

They have the tendency to reject 'in your face' shots. The train isn't given enough 'breathing' room.

What more can I do with a broken kit lens (18-55) and a new telephoto (55-250) which is awesome The pics you see are practically out of camera. Just a hint of processing with the light and a teeeeensy bit of sharpening.

Ben

PS-I know what you mean by breathing room, i need to explore everything below 250 haha

The image was rejected for being too dark, not too "in your face." His composition is fine, the lighting and image quality are not. My guess is that is the result of his editing process, and the original file MAY be salvageable.

Well Richard, its called ''head on'' not ''in your face''. It's 2 completely different things. Obviously if they rejected this material, no one would shoot head on. So MR. Thompson lets see some of the ''in your face'' shots that you have had rejected.

Well, I guess this one blows a hole in your theory:

So why were your "in your face" shots REALLY rejected?

I like the head on shots myself. I think if you can get a train coming at you out of a curve and crop it just right, the photo comes out pretty darn nice. I think Ben did a good job of getting those "head on" shots.

Don't bother trying to save it, I can see a ton of chroma noise on the nose. Brighten it, and all will go to hell.

EDIT - Forgive me for mildly blowing up, but all I was trying to do was explain, that in the past, it has been advised to newer members here, not to take 'in your face' or 'head on' shots that don't give the train much breathing room. I thought that mentioning that was necessary for this picture.

It seems as though someone always has to voice the opposing opinion as me, while also questioning my opinion in a sarcastic tone. Watain threw "Mr. Thompson" into the equation, which gives me the idea that he is trying to be somewhat sarcastic. I agree, my BNSF shot is a bit "in your face", but there is breathing room. Don't 'call out' one of my photos, just because I tried to help another member out on the forums. I am telling her to leave more breathing room in the image, for her own benefit. Just let me have my word, and do me a favor, and leave it at that. If you don't agree, keep it to yourself.

Right now, I only have 3 rejected photos in the database, and none are what I'd call "in your face." I think the rejected photo in question is "in your face" and isn't "head on". My opinion, take it or leave. Alright?

One last thing, to answer your question, Jim, I have had images rejected for "bad angle", came to the forums (these forums, you know, the RP.net forums) for help, and have been told that the images are too 'in your face' or don't have enough breathing room. So, I'll let you answer the question. I was going based on what people like you said. Also, I wouldn't call my statement a theory. I am only repeating what has been said in the past.
First off this is head on and it has breathing room. The only thing is that its a tad tight on the left.

''RP may not like the 'in your face' deal''

Not sarcasm? Alrighty then.. Where did you read that they told new members not to take head on shots, any shot can be in your face; not just head on. Its the cropping that determines weather or not its in your face.

"RP may not like the 'in your face' deal" It sounds sarcastic, almost like calling someone ignorant...

Well, if you took it that way, I'm sorry.....I really meant something like "RP has made it clear in the past that they don't like cropping too tight on the locomotives, or head-on shots without breathing room." I wasn't intending to be sarcastic.

I will be sarcastic now, and say that the locomotive in that image is a GEVO and not a Dash 9. So the proper caption would be "looks like a whole lotta GEVO in your face."

That image is fine. I am mainly referring to images where the locomotive has no breathing space, and there should be more space around the locomotive. Gracious, I never thought I'd stir up such a controversial matter by saying what has been said time and time before.
