As he was crossing the tracks, he yelled, "FOAMER!!" I yelled back, "YEP!!" No clue if it was employee or fan. Also, in Wheaton today, at the College Ave. station, I had an ill-informed station agent sincerely warn me not to take pictures. She said, "It's against the law." I asked as of when, assuming she would say 9/11, which she did. She went on to say, "If the police see you, they will arrest you and take your camera." Little did she know that inside, I was rolling in laughter, but also quite concerned by her ignorance. I hope to get to Bensenville tomorrow, but it's a long shot. Anyway, got some good BNSF, AMTK, METX, and UP action so far.
Stay away from the South side...

Blue Island and Homewood are fine, though idk if Homewood counts as South Side. Though I would choose Franklin Park anyday now that I have been to both, Blue Island SUCKS.

I have extensively railfanned Chicago, including the South side. Blue Island is one of the tamer places.

Honestly winter time is better because there is less riff-raff just out wandering around, they stay indoors more.

I'm waiting for concealed carry to pass here and then I'll have to find a buddy to cover me. My dad has fantastic stories of growing up on the South Side in the 1930s. If he only had a camera!

I may be able to get to Bensenville when we leave today, and that would be like 2 PM (can you say High Sun?). I've also done Union Station (cha-ching!), some on the BNSF Chicago Sub, and the UP Geneva Sub.

Yep, didnt have any problems at Blue Island and I walked there from the Metra station, sat there all day staring at all the many empty tracks....wish the action was as good as it used to be, maybe I just picked a bad day.
I've noticed the same thing in Atlanta, also they seem to prefer cloudy days, which is fine by me.

Part of railfanning is luck (especially when you're out of your own local area). I went to Blue Island once in my life and saw a dozen trains in a little less than three hours.

I've driven out to Cajon Pass and shot five trains in an hour. I've driven out to Cajon Pass and shot one train in three hours.

It's been a while since I've posted. This seems like a good thread to jump into.

But, it appears I've forgotten how to make the photolinks. Help anyone?

Travis:

That's what I had in my notes. When I hit preview, no images, so I thought I got wrong or maybe the code changed. Thanks for the help.

They don't appear in preview, they only appear on the post. Would be nice if they appeared in the preview, though.
