As far as the original topic of "cutting off" wedgies, I tend to do it by using a "border", such as this one:

Regarding the original photo, I absolutely see what he is saying regarding not much nose light.
At the time, when me and Louis were railfanning together, I was not able to get out of our car to take photos (on crutches) so I was forced to shoot from the car. On top of that, because of the nose light, I had to take a
really wide wedge (it turned out I was only a mile to the south of Ween):

It looks like the back of the train is cut off slightly with the border, and I would have liked to have shown the whole elevator. But, it turned out as a majority of the train can be seen and the locomotive consist is unique.
