Clutter?

Hello everyone,

I recently uploaded this image which was rejected due to clutter in the foreground. Is the clutter the lily pads in the foreground or the bushes next to the train and tracks? Is it worth a re-upload (if so any tips on revising?), should I appeal, or just not bother with a re-upload?

I'm a university student learning photography so any tips are appreciated. Thanks for your help!!

Just to expand on Loyd's comment, I think the problem is the brush obscuring the track and running gear of the train. The train seems to be floating on the bushes along the right-of-way, so to speak. The norm for rail photography is to show the trucks and wheels. The lily pads and water in the foreground are a nice artistic touch.

While I think that a strict policy of no weeds, no stumps, etc. is probably a little extreme and not typical of what American railroads really look like, I do think the rejection here is probably justified. In this case, none of the undercarriage of any of the equipment is really visible, which does take away from the aesthetics of the image.

Perhaps the railroad might be interested in some publicity photos and would be willing to weed-whack this section of track to facilitate it. Other than that, I think you'd need to find a cleaner location.

A very nice scene, although the Geep is a little close to the edge for my taste.

The C&TS had a similar problem along a pond below Windy Point and the Friends of the C&TS went out and did a little brush removal to minimize the issue. But of course the C&TS is a special situation with a cadre of supporters who care about stuff like this and are willing to do it for free.

I think there's some difference between the weeds in an unkempt urban environment, showing poor track conditions and adding interest, as opposed to vegetation out in a more rural/scenic area blocking the track. Maybe? I personally think there's is a difference between the accepted and rejected but it's hard to describe. Comparing something rejected to something accepted and expecting consistency is just asking for confusion.

High sun. Very high sun!

And yes, the Cape Cod shot is also high sun, but still a nice rural scene with a reflection.
