As a roster shot no less and a top shot too. Getting a photo accepted is like playing Russian Roulette. #Inconsistency

Yeah I was very surprised by that getting on as well. I had always been under the impression that a roster shot needed to be technically perfect to get on or of something extremely rare, of which this is neither. Oh well ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyone else notice what a poor photoshop job it is? The selector tool missed a big spot before the shadow and highlights tool was jacked, and it looks really bad.

I was just about to call this one out too. High sun, poorly cropped, grass obstruction (I've been hit with this with as little obstruction).

1) Not sure why the photographer wanted to share this.

2) Shaking my head that the screeners let it through.

3) Wondering what in the world is so interesting about it that it's got over 3K views.

Troy, I think that's the dynamic brake blister shadow. You're not used to seeing that being so big like that because such a ridiculously high-sun shot isn't usually in the DB.

Honestly, of my three questions, the second one, how'd it get past the screener, is the least concerning. Of course mistakes get made and sometimes you're distracted.

The other two questions are what stupify me. Why on earth would you post that unless you wanted to show someone what high sun is (and explain not to shoot it)?

And why are so many people viewing it?

I disagree. It's definitely axis-lit, but look at the angle of the dynamic brake shadow that Troy pointed out. Not quite straight down (That only happens between the tropics (+/- 22 degrees latitude)), but it's about as close as it gets in Portland.

You disagree that it's not high sun? Uhhh....take a look at the short shadows from the grab bars on the nose. Definitely not even close to being high sun. If this loco was rotated 20-30 degrees CW, this would be a textbook-lit roster shot.

And if the camera data is correct, this photo was taken at 5:33pm.
