Smile Dennis Livesey's new book

I notice that Dennis, who posts here occasionally, has published a new book of his images of Steamtown, "Smoke over Steamtown". I found a review of it here: https://evilcyclist.wordpress.com/20...ver-steamtown/. Dennis is a talented reformed professional cinematographer who has learned to take some really nice still images, both in color and black and white. Many of his images are posted on RP (except of course for the ones that were rejected!).

I had the good fortune to meet Dennis, Mitch Goldman, and Joe Fusco for lunch in Roanoke in May. Dennis was quite excited about the project. I'm anxious to get my hands on a copy. Dennis' work is exemplary.

Hopefully his next book will contain the wonderful NYC "cityscapes with train" that are so uniquely his. And I noticed he just got a photo of the week here for a very nice shot from the Valley Railroad.

Default Smoke Over Steamtown

John and Doug, thanks for the kind words!

Yes, I have a book coming out. It is called "Smoke Over Steamtown."

As you all might surmise, the photos were taken by me at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton PA.

The book is about the "emotion of steam locomotion" and makes a case as to why steam locomotive preservation is important and necessary.

It is not a history or guide about Steamtown; there are other fine books available that have already covered that.

Besides the candy and cake of the pictures, there is also meat and potato's in the words of those that that work there and are in charge of running those steam trains.

I inadvertently started the project in 2009 with the photo below.

I contacted the engineer in the photo, Aaron Stout. This lead to a cab ride and an article in a special edition of Trains Magazine. Soon after meeting him, he said "you ought to become a volunteer!" Well, I did and this opened up a whole new world not only for my photography but my life.

So here we are, years later and my book about the place is starting to roll out.

You can get it at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or Ron's Books.

If you want, you can ship it to me and I will sign it and send it on to you.

Thanks everyone!
