Here is the cab-camera footage from an Amtrak- vehicle collision that took the lives of five young Americans......

I watched it. It looks like the driver didn't even see the gate was down. Possibly like they were distracted by something else and not paying attention.

Watch it again. You can see the crossing gates are down and the car is crossing the tracks in the left hand lane. There's a link on that same site showing a LEO telling what happens. He shows another surveilance video which shows the crossing when it happened. The arms are down and a white truck is stopped. The car doesn't slow down, just gets in the left hand lane and tries to make it across the crossing. The train hits it.

Go to the link above and then click on "Canton Car/Train Collision" for more detail. I had not seen this vantage point before.

They don't call 'em "LEOs" here in Michigan, Joe. "Cop" or "police" works just fine. In fact, I think the first time I'd ever heard the term "LEO" was on the forum in that big thread.

And yet another one earns a Darwin Award here in Michigan, this time in my city:

I stand corrected. I only watched the one video that doesn't have the slow-mo, and didn't notice that.

What a sad day for all of us in southeast Michigan who got bombarded by this story on the local news for days. One theory I heard was that many slow moving freights use these tracks and that the driver may have thought it was a slow moving freight and not an Amtrak train moving at 70mph. What a tragic story.
