Default NS Pony's up an engine to make others green with envy

ALTOONA, PA. - With U.S. Dept. of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Congressman Bill Shuster in attendance, Norfolk Southern today unveiled the latest in alternative energy locomotive technology at its Juniata Locomotive Shop in Altoona, Pa. NS 999 is a prototype 1,500-horsepower switching locomotive that relies solely on rechargeable batteries for power.

Interesting (that's being nice) new livery for this unit - green, white and black.

Get your Top of the Day, in Altoona, PA - limited time offer! Let's see some pics!

I really like that paint scheme-if NS wants to appeal to railfans and environmentalists, this is the paint job for them!

I don't think NS wants to appeal to railfans... though green might appeal to environmentalist. Then again, green diesel engines might appeal to environmentalists.

Looks like Scooter got the first pic onto RP and caught it digitally without the need for film or chemical processing, green all the way. As for the paint job, I'll steal a phrase from Jim Thias - Blah.

Digital is far from being green. Though maybe not as bad as tossing developer, stop bath, and fixer in the drain

I like the scheme, some. With a little tweaking it would look suh-weet.
