Default Help With Signal Type

Hi all! I was wondering if some of you could help me with a type of signal. I have this railroad map that tells a lines density, past owners, signal type etc. I was wondering what a MAN signal type is. I assume that MAN is short for Manuel, but what does this mean? Are there signal lights indicating red yellow or green, is it warrent controlled or what? Thanks alot!

The term "Manual" is not very expressive regarding signal control systems. It could mean "manual interlocking" which means the system is controlled by an operator (as opposed to "automatic interlocking" which is used on low volume lines where the signals are set to "first come, first served." It could mean "manual block system" implying that trains are controlled by track warrants rather than automatic block signals.

Which segment(s) of UP is shown as "manual" on your maps?

Hi! Yes, I think your right because, this one starts in DesMoines Iowa aand UP branch that goes about 35 miles northwest then stops, is abbriviated MAN. It dosent intersect with any other lines so, there would probably be no reason for signal lights. I really wanted to know because of the IC&E line in Rockford IL. Maybe I should have investigated this more before posting in the forum . Thanks alot for your help! Like your profile pick!lol
