Default Very confused

I knew it was a long shot. It's too artsy. I still think it's cool.

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...65&key=9204644

But really? This got in instead??? Am I missing something?

That's a pretty cool shot, Sean. I would agree it was a long shot for RP and would not think worth an appeal. But, you bring up a substantiating image....

The PUSH PULL sign - I'd say that too was a long shot that happened to slip in.

Apparently - and fortunately, at least one screener sees a value in RP accepting images that, while not necessarily being among the "best" railroad photos on the net, still havemerit for inclusion into the database for it's value in educating railfans on aspects of railroading. Hence acceptance of some railroad displays and wrecks (though maybe wrecks just for the viewing numbers). Unfortunately, the linked image's caption really does not describe clearly the function of what is being presented.

Put another way - until further notice (and it would seem eternal), do not bother using one accepted image to validate another. Post, appeal, move on and you'll save many viable brain cells from extinction. The basis for acceptance is not a science.

Mitch, agreed.

I might wait a few days and maybe try again just for giggles. I just really like the look of the smoke.

That's a pretty awesome shot you got there. Appeal away.

Thank goodness for the caption, so we know it's a railroad something!

I read the caption and I still don't know what I'm looking at.

Jim, this is the corner of a coal hopper. They are labeled where they can be safely pushed by a front end loader or pulled using rope or chain. Not a very appealing shot to me. Now if he has a picture of the jacking pads label "jack here" and some crude individual added "off", then he might have something!

Sean, for what its worth, I really like your shot. The black and white treatment works very well on the steam/smoke.

Thank you everyone. I might try to resubmit in a few days, play roulette and see if I can get a more sympathetic screener. You never know.

I dunno, it's a neat shot but I don't know if it's for here. Not a fan of the cut off bits and pieces.

Appeal denied. Moving on.

One day I'll sneak one by.... one day. And all the 3/4 wedge shots will bow in my presence.

All the 3/4 wedgies will crush you with their view counts. You will have to go sit in the corner and mumble to yourself about having achieved the artistic high ground.

The artistic high ground is a low vantage point here.

The views will crush me indeed. But how many people really "see" those images. It's all about how many people the image can "touch".

Ok... done getting philosophical.

Agreed. 3/4 wedgies will always crush. Arsty can go on my fineartamerica page. Back to reality.

Actually, I don't begrudge anyone their common power at generic location shots.
It's the fine shots that did not get in for absurd reasons (IMHO), like this one by El Roco (rejected for no light on the nose) that I'd rather see:

Honestly, will the next 1000 Norfolk Southern GE wedgies be any different from the last 1000? (Except maybe for the road number!)

Not to mention ones with a lot of ugly crap sticking out of the top of the train. Those locations to me are known as "put the camera down and just enjoy the train rolling by."

That indeed is a nice photo.

Must infiltrate this cult of mysterious screeners.

Thanks, I like this one too.

Outstanding "layers" of lighting that you captured here. Well done.

Not the kind of material that RP wishes to accept? Such a shame.

Which is why I wasn't too keen on Attica Junction up there either. Excellent potential with the fields, but that tower right at the diamond ruins it.
