Default Backlit?

http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...01&key=9808424
I got this shot today while out railfanning. Eastbound grain meets a westbound manifest. It got rejected for being backlit. What do you think? The lighting on 3782 (the intended subject) looks pretty good to me, though some of those shadows may be a bit distracting? And the crossing gate jutting in from the right doesn't help either... or the wires. But backlit is the main rejection here. I only submitted it in the first place because it's the best "meet" shot I've gotten - in fact, the only meet shot I've gotten. The backlit reason might've just been a screener misclick, but in any case.... thoughts? I know there are likely more problems...

Ummm...a trainload of problems here.
Too dark and undersharpened for starters (corrected in mere seconds with free IrfanView.
The shadow of that tank or whatever it is falls just in the wrong place.
As for the nose of the locomotive, half-dark noses may or may not get rejected.
Sorry, no candy for this one.

BTW, did you submit any from your previous post?

What he said... all of it

Throw in all those poles and cables, it just isn't a good scene

Definitely not a screener misclick, quite backlit.

You were standing in the wrong place to take this shot, basically. You will learn to anticipate this in advance. When selecting where to take a shot from, the first question you always must ask is, "From what direction is the light coming from?" The second is, "How will the light interact with my subject?"

You only needed to use "from" once in that sentence.

Rhymes with slice, rice and mice, and probably should be spelled like "Tice."

This pretty much sums it up: http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Thias
