Default Railfanning in the Naperville (Chicago) area.

Next month i'll be going up to Naperville for a week. Where are the places along the BNSF mainline through the area I won't want to miss?

5th Ave station, Lisle station on the BNSF. Wheaton on the UP has a lot of nice curves. Also need to eplore the C&I west of Aurora. I'm also partial to the Santa Fe, Lemont, Lockport, and Joliet

race track and UP through Wheaton are the busiest. The Santa Fe tends to run in spurts. The C&I does have track work going on. last I knew they were working 0430-1230. The pair of Saint Paul-Chicago and Chicago-Saint Paul trains are through on the east end of C&I early afternoon. The C&I can be quite busy with about 50% of the traffic from the racetrack. The other half goes on the Mendota sub toward Galesburg.

Franklin Park/Bensenville is your best bet for CP. They have a large freight yard there so there is always something going on.

Franklin Park has a fenced in park just west of the Metra station. B-12 just east of there can get quite busy-some photo opportunities in both locations, but not great spots. Rondout and Techny Jct/Shermer Rd(where the CP dumped a couple of trains this past weekend) are probably the best spots on the Milwaukee line-Rondout is more photogenic.
