Default Comments/Opinions on a Weekly Discussion?

Fellas,

I've been pondering this idea for a while, but since the new year is approaching, I thought that now would be an appropriate time to mention the idea.. Obviously, judging by my nearly 1,000 posts to the RP Forums, I enjoy participating in rail/photography related debates etc.

Would you guys, the "regulars" of RP, be interested in participating in a weekly debate regarding a rail/photography, or even a Railpictures.net related discussion? Personally, as we head into the New Year, I spend a large portion of time indoors due to the cold weather and the fact it's cloudy for all of January, excluding maybe two or three days out of the month.

Perhaps start a new topic every week, or since some members do not visit as often as others, we could have a new topic every other week, thus meaning two discussions each month. Opinions or comments? We could try it and see how it goes. If it obviously does not receive much feedback, then there will be no need to continue typing it up every other week.

While yes, a good bit of discussions on various aspects of photography are discussed regularly, this is simply an idea.

It was tried with the weekly PCA photo discussion but it burnt out kinda quick. Only a few posters every week.

Step 1: Have an interesting idea/thought about photography.
Step 2: Post in RP forums.
Step 3: People respond.

No need to schedule "talk amongst yourselves" time.

/Step 4: Profit!!

I see. Chris, didn't you mention you were thinking about starting up the weekly discussion on the PCA's again after the annual PCA problems were resolved?

Correct. But, if I read your post correctly, you are proposing starting debate-type discussions. If you read through the older posts on the PCA thread, it was a place to post your 4 nominees and why you chose them. It was more of a "damn, how'd I miss that" thread than a "well these are my well-thought-out and rational reasons why these were the 4 best photos uploaded last week" thread.

You read my post correctly, Chris, however, perhaps my choice of "discussion" in my previous post was not the best word choice. Travis mentioned the PCA voting thread, which thus, lead to my question.

Either way, the PCA thread seems like a good idea.

Conversations and discussions happen naturally and can not be scheduled or organized, Chase. Central planning does not work. Either way, with close to 1000 posts, you'd think you're already getting your fill!
