Comment rejected?
So I am a little baffled why my comment on a photo got rejected. Here is a link to the photo, and here is my comment.
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=235782
Looks like somebody from SP is in managment somewhere.
What's wrong with that??

If that's in fact the reason why the comment was rejected, then quite simply that is ridiculous. It probably takes more time to reject the comment than to simply add an 'e' to the misspelled word.
'Course, we'll probably never know why the comment was actually rejected.
Chalk it up as another one of those "behind the scenes mysteries" at railpictures.

It says specifically in the instructions for leaving comments that they want correct spelling.

I once had a comment rejected for incorrect spelling. Once that was pointed out to me by the screener, I had to agree with the reject, as I do in this case. Though the screener could have likely corrected it, that is not the point. Andrew need only correct it and re-submit.

Yeah, it's so behind the scenes and mysterious that they post this right where you leave a comment:
Quote:
Note: Comments must be posted in English. Comments will be screened for grammar and punctuation prior to being added. Comments with misspelled words, incorrect capitalization (i.e. 'cool shot' or 'COOL SHOT'), excessive punctuation (i.e. 'Great Photo!!!!!!') will be rejected. Additionally, please refrain from using the Comments feature to direct questions specifically to the photographer; if you have a question for him/her, please use the 'Contact Photographer' link located on the specific photo page.

Heh... Get over yourself. It was obviously rejected for a logical reason. I wouldn't want a bunch of comments where everyone spelled everything incorrectly.
It's not the screeners job to correct the misspelled word. You're suppose to have it correct the first time.

Whoever is that concerned about a misspelling in a comment on their photo needs to get over themselves. Sorry, that was personal again.

So they dole out reasons why your pictures are rejected, but they can't give you an explanation as to why your comment is rejected? Who here has won a spelling bee or is anal enough to run everything through spell checker? Come on.
If they're going to reject just about everything, then give us reasons. Otherwise the site needs to get over itself.

What a laugh riot. The issue is isn't the fact that you don't have a life, it's that the screeners do have lives. That precludes them from spending all their time on giving explanations for trivial things like misspellings when there are more important things to do.
Everyone makes spelling errors at some point or another, but they owe it to themselves and others to do a spellcheck, especially when writing in a public venue. Poor spelling and grammar issues are a reflection on the person that made them. When screeners reject comments for those reasons, they're helping the person that made them as much as they are making the site easier to read for everyone else. The fact that you are so perfect that you don't need to run spellcheck, or the fact that people who try to use proper internet etiquette are somehow "anal" strikes me as the peak of arrogance. You are the one who needs to get over himself.

I honestly think the misspelling is secondary. What does

The issue is indeed the misspelling, even though I also don't "get" the gist of what the comment's trying to say.
Don't forget that, when screening comments, we're not always sitting at a PC where a correction is easily done. During my recent trip to Alaska, I was cruising down the Seward Highway at 70mph screening comments and e-mails on my PDA. I don't necessarily want to be doing that, but I do it to try to ensure the best service and timeliness to our site users. Do you think I should also be responsible for correcting hastily posted comments with misspellings and grammatical errors in that circumstance?
Learning to use proper English isn't that difficult, especially for those of us living in the U.S. or other English speaking countries. Newer internet browsers (IE 7.0 or higher, all recent versions of Firefox) have even gone a step further toward encouraging societal reliance on 'spell checking,' and actually include a spell checker right in the form field where you type your comment. You don't even have to do anything; it does it for you. In my mind, there's no excuse.
Oh, and rustyrail (Charles) -- ease up. You're teetering on the edge.

The thought behind the comment was the extra ditchlights on the unit. SP always had extra lights so it was a joke that BC Rail has somebody from SP in management that likes extra lights.

That's like an inside joke that maybe 5% of the people in a large crowd will even understand. I was about to ask myself what the heck you meant and why you were saying it was rejected, since it IS listed in the comments section under the photo. Even more perplexing.

There's always that one post when spelling is at issue where someone thinks it's funny to spell words wrong on purpose. Or tipe, as we call it in South Carolina.

... like people who use 'z' instead of 's' in words like organise, omit the letter 'u' from words like colour, and incorrectly spell the word 'night.'
