God forbid, anytime I shoot anything that doesn't directly have a train in it, it's rejected. Oh no, I stepped out of the box! Well figured y'all might like to see it before it disappears, it failed the appeal too...

I hated those switches and I was a kid then. Everyone I knew finished them off with their foot but normally not like that, just the last push if they were stuck.

You need a 611 lurking somewhere in the background, a couple little kids, some flowers and 57 Chevy or two.

Other than that, the subject is perfectly centered??? and photo is similar to what I often do, very document style. A little different perspective could help.

Getting back to proper safety, maybe better unpublished???

The way he is throwing that switch is a rule violation. He can only use his foot for the last 6 +/- inches depending on the rule book. That alone could be the nail in your coffin.

There is a few other issues as well. I don't believe the rejection was out of line. Keep working at it keeping the rule in mind. Eventually you may squeak one in. You can't beat a properly composed image featuring the human element

It could just be that the image was deemed unappealing by one screener.

I wonder how many if any of the screeners are familiar enough with the rules that such a violation would even have been a consideration.

Back to the rejection- it seems dark and flat, and the subject is centered in the scene.

If you like it - and don't mind the now identified rules violation, I'd brighten the shot via "Shadow fill /Shadows and Highlights" filter and give it a go. Might even consider a horizontal crop to eliminate the "extra" on the bottom.

You know, I didn't even think of the rules violation (funny because I do this for a living). I know I can't use my foot on cannonballs on CP property, but I am not familiar with MNNR's interpretation of the rules and their take on the subject. I've moved on, just thought some would like to see it. It was a grab shot, but I liked the way it came out.

One thing that really puts me off is the face, which I can't see. What is he wearing, some sort of goggles? Well, zoomed in, I guess they are glasses, but it is hard to see. And what is that black blob near his mouth - looks like some sort of microphone boom coming down from the side of his head. I can't figure it out.

That would be the "Michael Jackson Microphone" mentioned in the remarks section there J... And yes, it does throw the appearance of his face and glasses off. Maybe if it were light enough to make out what it is it might help - or not.

The microphone is for his RR radio, from what I gather from other MNNR employees I've talked with, "Horsey," as he's known, is a bit of a character. He has his Michael Jackson microphone, and always wears a cowboy hat (although that has nothing to do with his nickname ironically).
