BNSF taking back Carlsbad line from SW

BNSF will take back the Carlsbad, NM branch from Southwestern Railroad (SW) as of March 15, 2016. The line was leased to the SW in 2004. While it is suspected by many that lack of track upkeep and the fatal head-on collision last year may have ultimately led to the lease termination (which was renewed in 2014), no official reason has been given.
