Shots you can't believe came out as they did.

When you find that great light and great spot you know your shot is going to be one of your best. Sometimes it doesn't work out as planned but youthought it was going to be spectacular. How often do your better shots come unplanned and unseen untill one day when you decide to process it? When you shot it, it look like any old shot, when you previewed it you went right passed it, and then one day it is like you found a diamond in the ruff.

When I found this location with the lighting and rain and the landscape it had I knew the shot was going to work. This is not what this post is about.

This shot was unplanned completely. It just worked, but I saw what I had when I pushed the shutter. I am also not talking about these shots.

These shots I didn't realize what I had untill I started looking closer at them on the computer and started playing around with them after they were passed by a few times. These are the shots I am talking about.

There aren't to many ideas left so instead of using CPR on an old thread I go to Europe and clone new ones from the old.

This wasn't planned, but I caught the pulsating Mars Light on the back of the Milwaukee Road observation car Cedar Rapids going around a curve with Mars in the sky, which I thought was pretty neat.

Have you ever seen your view count before and after you post it on this forum? I have checked a few times and it is worth about 4-10 views.

This post has to be about your own photos. I was just seeing what others have for those suprise photos they have that they didn't expect and most post steer away from the point quickly so I was making a point of what not to include while whoring at the same time. It's a win, win situation for me.

That would be valid reasoning if you only did it once or twice. However, we are all well aware of how often you do this so all of your whoring has most likely resulted in a significant number of extra views.

Ultimately, I think your motivation behind all of this is about more than extra views. You're also looking for compliments and acceptance from your peers which gives you more self worth. It also gives you a sense of satisfaction in that all of your hard work was worth it. In a hobby that is often thought of as strange by the masses, having your work appreciated is even more rewarding. I can't blame you for seeking this out because only a person with a cold and dark heat does not desire acceptance and self worth. I just find how you go about acquiring it rather comical and transparent.

Have to be honest, the shots that I didn't think were going to work, um... I was right.

EDIT - okay... I'm going to add one of my dad's here... because when I first saw this slide back in 1977 I was really disappointed in it. We were on the wrong side of the sun (I took a similar shot on print film, standing next to my dad), and there was no locomotive in the shot. Now looking at it, I'm personally very happy with the shot... mostly for the historic value, but I also really like the framing, even with the sun in front of us.

And then there is this one of mine... I got this hotel room with a view and all I wanted was sun... and every time a train came the sun would literally go away... once, the sun disappaeared as the train came (in the exact moment... sun, train horn, sun, train, cloud, picture... aaaarrrrgggghhh). At home I discovered that this throw away shot in the pouring rain actually turned out to be the best shot I took.

Fair enough, but then John has already said you are wise and piling on additional compliments would be entirely too much.

I agree with you that this thread is not a problem. My comment was directed at rusty's general assessment that the forum is "self-destruct"ing, which is entirely over the top and absolute and thus the style of the statement reminds me of a certain Mike B. at his worst.
