Similar to Previous rejection, should I appeal?
I had this shot rejected for "Similar to Previous Photo":
http://www.railpictures.net/viewreje...&key=568163679
The previous photo in question is this:
http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=284442
While there are obvious similarities as per the point-of-view and being a time exposure night shot (streak shot, if you will), I thought both had enough merit to stand on their own. The accepted photo was of a local freight coming on to the main and belching out a humungous cloud of smoke as it accelerated by. The rejected shot was of a commuter train where the exposure was terminated before the cab car had left the frame. The engineer had switched the headlights to high making them appear as pinpoint streaks while the number boards look like pieces of extruded aluminum (or something) pointing into space. Should I appeal the rejection, ask for the shots to be switched in the database (Chris K has done this for me once before on request) or just be happy I got one accepted. Your opinions would be most welcome.
BTW although I have been posting photos for a while now, I'm a real newbie at posting threads so please be gentle on me .

Well, they are streak shots, so the details in your narrative are essentially irrelevant in my view. Sure, one is a commuter and the other a freight, but one cannot tell in the shots, and all that differs is the length and position and color of the streaks. Most streak shots are not telling anything about the story of the train, they are necessarily abstract.
Given that the rejected shot has a nasty/unpleasant spot of direct headlight, I would sit tight; the better of the two shots is already in, in my view.

I wouldn't appeal either if it were my shot. Similarity is too close.
And I agree with J, the better shot got in (I like the way you can kind of see the train in the back.

Thank you, Gentlemen! I can see it now, I guess I was too focused on how cool (I thought) the numberboard streaks and the green on the side of the cab car looked that I failed to notice how distracting the headlight glare was. 'Nuff said, nothin up that tree so I wont' bark up it no more!
Cheers!

Both are excellent shots. Very creative idea with the numberboards, too. You could always do the submit-in-a-few-month thing that some members take advantage of. Database or not, an excellent shot.

Honestly? I'm sorry Shi, but you really need to keep the childish attitude off of the RP forums. We're more than glad to help, but you're just being ridiculous.

If you'd act a bit more mature, these people are more than willing to help you. Noone is here to get you, or single you out and treat you horrible, we have better things to do. No need to bash the members here, as they're very helpful, as long as you respect them. I'm most likely typing this for nothing, but oh well.

I'm sorry, but the phrase "but what do I know" sounds just like a 5 year old whining. Once is tolerable, but posting that after almost all your posts is just plain childish. I understand Joe's not "understanding and supportive" but that's not reason to play the child card. We're more than happy to help, but please keep the 5-year whiny attitude off of here. Forgive me if that was harsh.

I fully agree wit you, Jim. I just find it doubtful that he is infact a retiree. I'm leaning towards a child who is just posing as an older guy. But then again...
What do I know?

I Give Up. You win.
I give up. You win!
It's quite obvious whatever I might say or do is never going to pass muster with any of you, so why even try anymore.
Goodbye.......

Once you play the "attitude" card, the "joking" card becomes null and void.
Have a great night!
