Why limit yourself to just one? Variety is the spice of life.

I agree, why limit yourself to just one? I enjoy seeing new territory when I travel and shooting new roads. I shoot mainly NS since its the closest to home, but I enjoy my hobby no matter what company I am shooting.

Your question would be like asking which artist to play on your iPod.

I agree...why limit yourself? Shoot what you find interesting...

It's such a silly question that I wonder what you intend to accomplish by asking it. Are you mocking the forum? Is this some strange version of performance art? I don't get it.

Or this could be the return of one of the less, er, useful participants in the forum, under a new name.

As said previously, this thread accomplishes very little since it really doesn't matter what railroad you shoot and you'll probably find yourself geographically limited to only one or two of the railroads listed (unless you live in Chicago).

None of the above. Shortlines are a lot more fun.

I wondered when someone would bring up shortlines.

That also means, what about steam?

Yes I do take likings of all those companies, but I wanted to see which one I should take a picture of next, I'm wanting to know which one you'd like to see on Rail-Pictures, but I also wanted you guys to vote for it will be the first of the photos to go on Rail-Pictures.net. After all, I love all companies, but I can only photograph one first picture, I wanted to know which one you wanted me to do, I will take pictures of all the others, but I wanted to know, and I'm having trouble picking since I like them all, which one to photograph. That's all, I have a yard no too far away, in Joliet, IL that had NS, CSX, and BNSF, and the local mainline is nothing but CN and Amtrak, so I can take photos of all the companies if I wanted to, I just need for some people to help me decide on which one. I can also take a photo of GT, but actually it's just CN, for CN owns that GT GP. So the options are the same, and don't worry, my love for trains will make sure I take photos of them all!

But if a camera is on hand, and we're out, I might be lucky to see some CP outside of Illinois, but not some time soon. I too like CP a little, who doesn't, it's a train company! I think some simple photo of every company would do just as good. How about one of the NS Dash 9s with the BNSF GPs, and the CSX Dash 9s in the yard, and if I'm lucky, some UP action!

If you're looking for a place to start then, why not shoot the BNSF, since your name on here is Santa Fe buff.

Actually, CP does run into Chicago. They have a yard (Bensenville) just northwest of the Windy City, and they also run some runthrough trains on various other railroads.

Look at the following map:

http://sooline.railfan.net/resources/maps/soo-2006.gif

Soo Line is all CP nowadays. Note the trackage down in the Chicago area.

CSX Dash 9's...where? All I ever see is the AC400's or the AC Gevos.I would never limit myself to just one railroad...i dont even know which RR would be my favorite. By the way...how old are you?

You're living in the wrong state. Plenty of them come through Michigan.

I dont even think one ES44DC has even came through here. A couple have showed up on NS trains, on the Bristol line. I dont know about Michigan though, I freeze my arse off during the winter time here as it is.

I'll submit a shot or two with a CSX DC in it in the near future just to tease you.

Yeah, it's cold here, but that just makes for some great snow shots.

Oh well I knew you would. I wish we did get some good snows here, I think the biggest snow we had was back in january and it melted like 10 minutes later.

Don't feel bad, we are liable to get that any (and every) month of the year!
