Default Evolution Series: How much improvement?

Hi guys.

Due to the fact that my all-time favorite locomotive is the GE C40-9W and that Iím so glad this unit is synonymous with Norfolk Southern (another favorite) I have to ask the pros among you:

- They are very similar in overall design, but how much improvement is there in the newer ďEvoĒ GE ES40DC compared to Dash 9s? Are ES40DCs better and more reliable in their freight duties than the Dash9s?

Thanks.

@ nikos1

Very "intelligent" remark. And on the subject. I'm not confused. I'm lost for words...

Perhaps those are his initials rather than a reference to a locomotive builder?

I dont think a photography forum is the right place to ask the pros haha

I personally have had a problem with those trying to tell us to turn railroad photography into an "art form." It's fine for them to do so, I welcome it in fact, but what I do have a problem with is that the practitioners of the more "arty" shots, I have found, tend to look down their nose's at others who are shooting more "mundane" shots.
Railroad photography is what you make of it, but one way is not "better" than another, IMHO. Unless you have a pole right thought the nose of the engine! -SG

I like the ES40DC engines more than previous models. The -8 and -9s are either great or garbage with no happy medium. In addition, they are very sluggish in throttle responses. The updated ES model loads quicker, recovers from wheel slip much faster, and holds the rail better than the -8 and -9s.

Hope this answers your question.

I would think that the ES40DCs would have better cabs and improved comfort. I'm sure as with any locomotive there are faults. I'll have to ask someone from NS about that.

With me, I think the standard cab GEs are sharp and I like how NS has the headlights up high on the cab.

Either way, they both come through here often so I just get accustomed to them.

Cheers,
Joshua
