Default Best. Train. Song. Ever.

Granted, this song isn't really about trains per se, but it does contain lyrics that include, "runaway train," "runnin' right off the tracks," and "one hot Southern Belle." They also have some train/rail shots in the video. And it's by the greatest rock band ever.

I hope I'm still doing what I love like these guys when I'm 61 years old!

Pretty good train themed song, but hands down the best railroad related music video ever.

Default Memphis Train

Per my musical tastes, you can't beat Memphis Train, by the Crown Prince of Funk, the late Rufus Thomas:

Buddy Miles (Jimi Hendrix's drummer, who died earlier this year, unfortunately) has an awesome cover of it as well:

Both are available on iTunes.

Just so you guys know...this wasn't a "post what you think the best train song is" thread.

All I have to say is: AC/DC. Period.

Yes, but everyone has their own opinion on what the best train song is and you opened the can.

Nope, no can of worms opened. No opinions needed. It's a fact...just like the earth is round. Or the sun is hot. Opinions can vary, but you can't argue fact!

My vote goes to "Southern Pacific" by Neil Young and Crazy Horse (1981).

Not necessarily a train song, but with some great rail-related lyrical imagery is Robert Johnson's "Love In Vain" (1937).

"When the train left the station,
It had two lights on behind.
The blue light was my blues
And the red light was my mind."

I'm surprised that no-one has mentioned, "Wabash Cannonball", "Wreck of the Old 97"or "Rock Island Line".

Come on you US chaps, where's your appreciation for your musical heritage?
