Default It's my turn for everyone's favorite game of "Really?"

The wire. Now when I see a thread titled "Really?" I tend to already form an opinion of, "Yeah, really." In this case, I don't see it as a hindrance, especially in the C40-8 shot. Besides, it's there. I tried to shoot around it even to the point of half crouching/half lying on a pedestrian bridge beside a busy road.

The thick wire in your face, no way, just no way, really distracting and ugly.

The other one, the wires don't bother me. That's just an "RP is ridiculously horribly contemptuously wrong I am totally amazingly stunningly right" sort of disagreement, happens all the time.

The cable in the second one is pretty annoying and does detract pretty seriously from an otherwise interesting picture, for me anyway.

The first one isn't as bad, but I think maybe the fact that one of the cables goes right across the nose of that wide cab in the background might be what they didn't like. I like the location - a good nitty gritty yard. Also, that first pic seems over sharpened to me.

Bad placement with it cutting through the rear nose on the first one. Bad distraction in the second one.

I admire your attempt to work around it, but it is absolutely a killer. Might have gotten away with it in the first one had that second train not been there...

I did find a variation of one of the shots without the wires. I remember when I took this one, I thought it was a back up in case the wires were killers.

I still like the other shot with the C40-8 closer. I don't think the wire in front of the second shot should be considered a distraction as the emphasis is clearly the train nearest us. I don't like the wires, but they're there. Can't do anything about that, but it's their sight, er, site, so it's their say.

Sure you can: don't shoot there, change your angle, change your elevation, zoom in more, etc. There are all kinds of options.

Not to get the shot of a train where the C40-8 is -- right under the bridge. Can't shoot it from ground level there. Besides, the point was the show the yard in the background. Same with changing the angle.
