Default Day In North America

Anyone plan to head out and contribute to this years DINA? This Saturday, April 17, 2010. I usually head out, but only haven't submitted in years... hope to change that this year.

Details here (I'm not affiliated with WRP in any way, just wondering who here shoots DINA):

I'll be out, but not with the intention of shooting for them.

Really? I guess $10 doesn't mean much to you.

Planning on going out Saturday to shoot...but it'll probably be cloudy even though sunshine is in the forecast right now.

I'll be covering the old B&O (CSX) between Point of Rocks and Paw Paw. The forecast is for mostly cloudy skies, but that also means sometimes sunny ;o)

I was planning on doing yardwork, but I might be able to convince myself to do otherwise. Depends on what the weather is like.

Well, I am hoping for a storm for my DINA day. Just clouds won't do.

Well, the weather was not good. Got a few GO Trains, VIA and a CP freight in good sun in the AM, then the clouds expanded towards all horizons and everything else was poorly lit. No rain to speak of, so nothing interesting there, just some variation in the cloud to provide a little interest. Needs some PSing to bring out.

Sunday was much nicer, but a day late.

How'd you guys fare?

No storms here. Some boring sunlit trains with boring blue skies.

I ended up doing some other things instead. The few shots I made time for just didn't do it for me. I did find a burnt up CN hirailer.

I managed to get some nice shots of Amtrak trains passing Ridgely Tower. The tower is scheduled to be taken out of service in late June, so this was the "last roundup" for the Day in North America.

I like this one a lot. Who are the folks coming down the stairs though?

The guy at the top of the stairs is the tower operator, the other guy was a railfan taking an elevated shot of the train south of the tower.

I like the retro feel to this shot. With the old F40 and the tower, this photo looks like it could have been taken sometime in the late 80's or early 90's.

I got one train, a good one but one train nonetheless.
If i had been in Atlanta as normal i couldve got a CSX Q141 with a stealth SD40-2 leader, a NS 251 cripple clown with two SD60's, a extra coal train with two SD40-2's and a gp38-2 and who knows what else, but I guess this was something though a 4 hour round trip for one shot cant be called a good day....

Thanks for that info on the tower closing. I want to go up there and I didn't know when it was to be closed. I went up a couple weeks ago and saw nothing. By the way, are the tower operators friendly?

At least one of the operators is. He usually works 1st shift on Saturdays.

Supposedly, UP's track gang is coming back on May 1st to start reconfiguring all of the track work for the new interlocking.

Want me to fix that wide angle distortion for you? I wouldn't want John to fall over and accidentally spray your camera.

Here's one of my take for the day. I've tried this shot a couple of times before but with less success. Saturday seemed like a good day for it. I might have one or two more that I could submit, but Saturday turned out to be a slow day for trains (and lots of driving in between shots).
