Default Night Photography and a CSX OCS

The other night, Emmett, JR, and I headed out for a few hours of some night photography in and around the Danville area. NS ran several trains which gave us plenty of opportunities for shots. Night photography is always a challenge. It seems to be about .1% equipment and 99.9% luck. I didn't have much of the latter, but it was good to get out and do something like this, seeing as I hadn't taken any night shots in 8 months. The highlights (or lack thereof) are as follows.

Now for the good photos...

Thanks to a heads up, we found ourselves shooting CSX (what's wrong with us?) today in hopes of catching train P955, an office car special. This is about the busiest I've seen CSX in a while. They ran 3 trains in about 90 minutes. First off was Z047/T531, a coal train we heard coming off the Old Road Sub in Winchester.

This train would later stall out while climbing the grade out of the Kentucky River Valley.

There were hopes of shooting P955 by the cemetery, but a yard job shoving back on the #2 main quickly made us change our plans. So, we headed a few miles south and ended up at Two Mile, MP KC100. P955 was burning the rail up heading south...

Right after the train passes, we hear the dispatcher talking to a coal train getting ready to head south off of the EK Sub. We just decide to hang out here and the train arrived shortly.

Thus concludes the rail action for today.

Hope y'all enjoy, and thanks for looking!
