Didn't know there are so many MPI/MBTA fans.

#3 all-time roster shot, and it's only up for a month. #1 and #2 have been up for years.

That's a crazy amount of views over two days! I don't remember that picture sitting in the corner of the home page those days. Something fishy??

If your goal in life is to be internet famous... whore yourself hard enough and you'll win.

A shame that the supposed 'best' shot on RP is now that. (Not that it's a terrible photograph, but it's certainly not a worthy representative of what the 'best' photograph should be here.)

Using tineye.com, I see the shot appeared in the Herald Sun in Melbourne, Australia, but I have no idea if link appeared there. And the detailed history of linking certainly doesn't show those hits. A mystery!

Which didn't inflate his views to that point, Sorry. There's a lot of respected photographers on here, which means very little in the grand scheme of things.

I couldn't believe how many views that thing has either - I don't even remember seeing it when it was first posted. 50,000 + views does seem a bit fishy. Even the #2 shot of the year, a real attention grabber with rails on fire, 'only' has a bit over 30,000 views.

I bet either one was in a news article.

The rules are made up and the points don't matter anyway.

Love that show and that line quoted here seems completely applicable.

That one rocks.

I have no clue why the unpainted albatross is so popular.

As for being fishy - na, I don't think so.

It isn't submitted by that large corporation.

Hi Loyd, thanks for correcting my typo. Ian lives and is probably well known in Melbourne, the city has a population of 4 million, the shot was published in a newspaper that has a circulation of 1.3 million a week day and 1.4 million on w/ends, he is also featured on many Australian rail websites, the last census says our population is 22.68 million, the shot also looks similar to many European cities and has derailment type appeal, I don"t know Ian personally and I agree about the respected photogs on site just saying.

Mark, there was still something special going on. While the shot was in the paper, it must have been that the specific RP link must have appeared somewhere online. No way someone who sees a shot in a paper bothers to see the shot again online.

Does the Melbourne paper have a quarter million subscribers to its online version? Does the online version link to the RP shot (the RP page hosting the shot) instead of having a copy on its own server? Why is there no big referring URL - the total of all the referrals adds up to maybe 2000 views. It's an oddity.

Bet they directly linked it on their website. IE: free hosting, free bandwidth

Hi J, just like you I agree it is odd, maybe RP is more popular than I thought.

Apparently it floods a lot in certain parts of australia

These were the same floods that flooded coal mines there for several months and caused a huge spike in export coal here
