was entered in my local camera club, The Redlands Camera Club, in the 2009 print competition.

I entered it the apprentice class under the photojounalism catagory.

It won 1st place. It was also here at the most viewed in 24 hrs and 4th for the week of most viewed.

Today 6/24 I get a call from the local newspaper, The Redlands Daily Facts, and they are doing a story of all 1st place winners in that competition.

The story is due out on June 25. When the link is posted I'll post it here.

I realize it isn't Nat Geo or some other huge paper or periodical but I still feel pretty good about it. There's an excellent chance I'll probably never be a professional photographer (I've been a Deputy Sheriff for 23 years now) so it's nice to get some minor recognition..even shared with other winners.

Ken

edit: I forgot how to use the photo id thing.

Congrats Ken! I've placed high in a few photography contests and even though I never won any it is still satisfying to place in them.

BTW, here's how to get the photo ID code to work:

[photoid= 281988] (minus the space between the = and the photo number)

Congrats! It's nice when railroad photography is recognized even when up against other types.

Congrats, Ken. As Andrew stated, it's nice to see that railroad photography is noticed by not only us railfans!

Keep it up!

I had 2 first place winners and the reporter asked which one. Well the other was taken at my neighbors house. Knowing my neighbor I thought best not to use that one without a release eventhough the photo was taken from a public area...he may still pitch a fit. So I just told her use the RR which I named Abandoned.

Thanks for the Kudos gals and guys. The link should be up later this afternoon (it's an evening paper) and I'll post it then.
