Perhaps the original raw image lost something in the post-processing steps. No way for viewers like us to know. I would agree with the others however, that the submitted JPEG does have IQ issues. At the very least, you'd probably want to look at the background in the original raw at 100% and decide if it is worth another go.
We've all got 'em. Shots that look good from a distance, but upon close examination, you realize it's an "almost, but not quite."
