Default Dog on a Train - New Bill in Congress

C'mon admin - get with the program!

Legislation introduced to allow pets on trains
Published: May 23, 2013 - TRAINS Magazine New Wire

WASHINGTON – Passengers would be allowed to take their pet cats or dogs on certain Amtrak trains under a bill introduced this week in Congress. U.S. Reps. Jeff Denham, R-Calif., and Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., introduced the legislation, H.R. 2066, or the Pets on Trains Act of 2013.

“My dog, Lily, is part of our family and travels with us to and from California all the time. If I can take her a on a plane, why can't I travel with her on Amtrak, too?” Rep. Denham says. “Allowing families to bring their animals with them will facilitate transportation and efficiency while also providing a much-needed source of revenue for Amtrak.”

Amtrak does not accept currently animals unless they are assistance dogs. Passengers traveling on Amtrak must either leave their pets at home or seek alternate transportation.

Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari tells Trains News Wire the company is reviewing the proposal.

I remember when I rode Carolina Southern's first train in many years, into Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, there was a dog named Raildog that walked up and down the aisles.

That was 12 years ago. I wonder how long Raildog lived?

Glad to see Congress is tackling the really tough issues that are facing the nation.

I dont know about the dog, but for all intents and purposes, that railroad is dead as a doornail. The shyster owners have milked everything they can and the RR is embargoed and shut down by the FRA.

Well, I'm all for it myself. My wife wants to go to Wilmington, DE and will only go by Amtrak if we can take the shih tzu.
