EX ICE/DME Engines

I was curious if anyone knew where the ICE/DME engines that where taken off of the CP roster went to?

Not sure how this one slipped by without notice, and sorry for the slow response. The only units I know of dispositions for are the 4200 series GP40-2s. Two were sold to the Copper Basin Railway in Arizona, and are working there in ICE colors with CBRY lettering. There are no plans to paint them in the near future because of the good condition of the paint on them now.

The other 8 are in the Helm lease fleet, and are on lease to CSX and being used in local service throughout the system.

I believe there were several SD40-2's cut up recently at MEI, I could find the pictures but they are rather painful to look at.

DME SD40-3 #6082, DME SD40-2 #6369, and ICE SD40-2 #6217 were recently sold and scrapped at Metro East Industries. All 3 had serious mechanical issues. Other retirements/sales include ICE SD40-2 #6413 which was wrecked on CSX and purchased by them.

Rumors of the demise of the ICE SD40-2 fleet are now coming to pass. The entire batch of 52 has been sold to Genesee & Wyoming as part of CP's sale of the west end of the DME, which G&W will operate as the Rapid City, Pierre & Eastern.

RCPE will begin operations as early as June 1st, and the railroad will be headquartered in Rapid City. This will bring an end to the ICE-powered ethanol many of us enjoyed seeing in the East over the past couple of years.
